Very Strong -- Each is rated for 500 lbs and the lock in the 90 degree position.
Self Lock-- They lock into place when positioned at 90 degrees relative to the mounting position and have a release lever to collapse to a 0 degree position. They didn't lock when closed, only when the legs were open.
